Shobar, J.J.--Grade 5

Dear EBS Families,

I have been teaching elementary school since 1997. I moved to San Diego in 1990 to attend USD on a tennis scholarship. After college, I began teaching tennis and worked with players of every level from beginners to touring professionals. One day I received a call from the principal at Bay Park Elementary School asking if I would run an after school tennis program for one month. Over the course of that month teaching and watching the progress of the 26 students in grades three, four, and five, I knew I wanted to teach in a classroom. I enrolled at Chapman University and earned a Teaching Credential and Masters in Curriculum and Instruction. My passion for teaching math prompted me to obtain a Math Specialist Credential from San Diego State University.

I have been married since 1999, and have a wonderful wife who is a teacher, yoga, and fitness instructor. I am still passionate about tennis and love to teach and play. My hobbies include hiking, mountain biking, open water swimming, going to the gym, backgammon, and traveling.

Sincerely,

Gerald Shobar
